Start of Summer

Hey, everyone!

School was over about this time last month. It is taking me a bit to get this blog post finished because I just didn't want to do another "writing assignment". All my classes were really good and I enjoyed having my friends with me for classes. I will be taking mammalogy, senior seminar, a few writing classes and CPR/first aid next semester. I am excited for Fall because it will be my last semester in school...ever, possibly. I think I will be done and not go to graduate school so I can get my life started and help make more money for Parker and I to get a house on some good land somewhere.

I have been doing a lot of art lately and kind of making a little career of it on the side. I made some T-shirts, paintings, I need to make prints and a few commissioned works. I took a little time off of doing art to go up to Kentucky for a wedding. Our dear friends JD and Lauren got married on a beautiful Kentucky horse farm, they are truly a match made in heaven. It was great seeing everyone and having fun. I hadn't seen Parker's family or friends since Christmas so there was a lot to catch up on.

Scarlett and the bunnies are doing good. They move around a lot when I take pictures so excuse the blurriness.

It has been as hot as you'd imagine here in Louisiana. I have been doing a lot of yard work and maintenance stuff at work because I'm trying to gradually get used to the heat and humidity here. I got to go on the barge and put artificial reefs out that we built. I have also been getting prepared for my new job that starts this Tuesday. I'll be finished working for LDWF as a student worker and I'll be working for University of Tennessee doing Louisiana Black Bear hair snares all Summer. I'll be building, baiting, maintaining and then tearing down (on the last week) the snares I will be using all Summer. Hopefully I get to see some bears! The scariest part of that job is loading and unloading the ATV from the back of the truck but I had training from some really great people at work and I feel much more confident. Tuesday will also be a big training day but after that I get to be in the woods by myself all Summer long. That's why I'm trying to get used to the weather down here. I got all kinds of bug sprays- I am trying the natural ones first and so far this repel one is doing really well, and I am going to treat my clothes with permethrin tomorrow.  I also need to watch out for snakes. After the bear job that lasts until late August, I'm not really sure what I will do. I am thinking of working at the zoo but truly it doesn't matter. I will be applying for full-time jobs soon enough, so just some job to make an income would be alright in the meantime.

This is my T-shirt design that shows 2 black bears getting into garbage and doughnuts. "Feast of the beast"

Last night Parker and I went frogging behind our house. We saw 2, I caught one that was big enough to keep and he caught the other which was a little too small. I had him but it in our front yard so that frog could go back to the water when we were done and wait to tell the other frogs about being caught. I think they somewhat communicate that because if you go out and catch little ones just for the sake of catching them and let them go back where they were, the next time you go the bigger frogs are more cautious and your success rate goes down.

"The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you.” -1 Samuel 17:37. Bears are actually mentioned a few times in the Bible. I thought this was good because it shows how God protects David from dangerous animals because God was with him and he had a purpose in life. I am not scared of bears because I know God will keep me safe. He gave me this job actually by putting me in the right place at the right time, this job was offered to me where I didn't have to apply, this is on my path to my dream job of large carnivore biologist.
